My sister’s wedding

My sister is now a married lady. I am so happy that she has found a man who can sweep her off her feet and love her like she is meant to be loved! The whole thing happened like a whirlwind and I can’t believe that the wedding has come and gone so quickly.

When she asked me to do the wedding cake, I was really honored and the picture that she showed me was a fairly simple design. I hope to get some of the professional photos too, but in the mean time here are some amateur ones. I found the beautiful cake topper in Germany and it really finished the cake off beautifully. (It is available for future hire)

Putting the final touches on the wedding cake

It has taken me a very long time to allow myself to place things randomly, but I think that I did manage some semblance of this on the wedding cake. Normally, everything would have to be evenly spaced and perfectly numbered, but I got this one right. It also helped a great deal to have a willing bridesmaid and groomsman helping me to make the blue flowers. We have quite a few left and I am very grateful to them for this as I could be as free with the flowers as I desired.

I took the cake to the venue without flowers of decoration of any kind and set it up there. It was a 30 minute trip on an unpleasant road and I didn’t feel like the stress of arriving there with to discover the flowers had come off/gotten squashed or the cake had moved or any other number of horrible ideas that floated into my mind. So all I did in advance was the marzipan layer, plastic icing layer and flowers. This along with a bowl of royal icing and I did everything else at the venue. Then I only had to move it 5 metres to the cake table and no heart attacks from transporting the cake.
