Daniel Fast – week 3 (Home stretch)

The Daniel Fast is now in it’s final week and you can see the difference in some people in church, not only physically, but they have a different glow about them. I think that this has been an awesome time of growing closer to God and just getting ourselves back on track.

Physically, people are looking happier and a little slimmer (which, after Christmas, can only be a good thing). My running times have improved and I’m feeling a lot more comfortable on the road despite only having lost 1kg, but I think that my body has managed to get rid of a whole lot of toxins that have been floating around for ages.

I could get used to eating like this permanently. It’s given me a new understanding of what we actually need food for. I’ve never thought that I could survive as a vegetarian or on a healthier eating plan, but my eyes have been opened and I truly believe that you will never understand this until you force yourself to do it for a couple of weeks.

My husband and I have not been fasting over the weekends due to prior commitments, but the during the week has actually been fairly easy and I absolutely love that instead of constantly thinking about what and when I can eat I’m actually thinking about God and prayer and spending more time letting my spirit commune with Him.

This certainly isn’t a cure all and there is so much that I should and could still do, so I’m not putting a time limit on this. I might just let it carry on for a while longer.

At Sunday School yesterday my lesson was on God’s protection, specifically how God protected David from Saul. It really brought home to me how many times God has protected me and those I love. He is truly faithful in what we ask of Him and I will do my utmost to never underestimate the power of prayer over both myself and my family and friends.

The Daniel Fast has helped me to rub some of the sleep out of my spiritual eyes and I will endeavour to continue until my eyes are bright and clear once again.
