Flowers, Flowers, everywhere!

Week 2 of the Icing Course – plastic icing

This week we used the buds that we made last week and continued with our plastic icing roses. We were given homework which I finished this morning, hence the blogging about it now. I’m definitely one of the slower ones in the class, but thankfully not the only one who didn’t finish the roses in class, but I’m rather chuffed with the results.

and then there were 5…

It’s amazing what you can get in order to do things with icing. There are hundreds of cutter/colours/tools etc that one uses. Hence, I now have a little Icing tool box to house all of these implements.

Next week is the last lesson of the first Cake Decorating course. We are going to be learning to completely cover a small cake with plastic icing and then decorate with our newly acquired piping skills (I’d better practice that) and our gorgeous flowers.Hence our homework … to make 50 little blossoms. I got a bit creative with some left over icing and I wanted to try out some of the other cutters, so that is what the two-tone flowers are.

Some of the centres didn’t stick so well so hopefully we can fix that with a little trick in next week’s class. I have some extras just in case.

I’m going to try to practice the Royal Icing skills today or tomorrow because it’s a lot harder than plastic icing and I think that I need the practice. I have made some cupcakes on which to practice and will hopefully be able to take a picture or two of those.

It is advisable for a wedding cake to use fresh flowers. It’s incredibly relaxing to do the plastic icing flowers, but is fairly time consuming and aren’t that tasty. Great for Christmas cakes or cakes that you want to have decorated in advance.

I can’t wait to have a finished cake to show you!!
