Original Brazilian Blow-dry (week 4)
So I’m a third of the way through how long the effects of the Original Brazilian Blow-dry should last. I have worn my hair down more in the last 3 weeks than I have in the last 3 years…it’s just so easy. Sometimes I blow-dry my hair either to just get it dry quickly (rough blow-dry without a brush) or to get it 100% straight again (with a brush and about 10 minutes of blow-drying). My hair looks great either way.
I actually find I look in shop windows at my reflection as opposed to what’s in the shop…shocking. It just feels so gorgeous.
I also find that my hair is in better condition. I assume that is from using the Nounou products (required because they are salt free) as well as the actual oil used in the treatment. It feels so good and my split ends are almost non existent.
This is great way to grow your hair even if you aren’t so fussed about the straight aspect. It’s as though the treatment seals the ends of your hair negating the need to constantly trim. I’m hoping that by the time the straightening effect wears off, me hair will be long enough for me not to have to worry about just leaving it down in it’s messy waves. Even though I am very open to repeating the treatment – it feels fantastic!
(I must thank Dominique Le Roux at Carlton, Canal Walk, for doing such a good job with my hair. She’s a lovely young lady and I would recommend her services to anyone – you can call Carlton, Canal Walk at 021 555 1837)

Hi Lauren
Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of myself, but you can check out some youtube videos, e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37sMVcq4AEM&feature=related. If I do it again, I’ll definitely do some before and after photos. Price depends a lot on how much hair you have, but it starts at about R1500. Not the cheapest treatment, but balanced against time saving ease it is worth it. It also helps if you are trying to grow your hair because it seals split ends and keeps your hair feeling great.
Hope this helps!

I am a Hair Stylist and own my own Salons on the North Coast ( Stanger and Ballito). e We started using the “ORIGINAL BRAZILLIAN BLOW DRY” about six weeks ago. I took some time to find the right one, and I have no doubt that this is the BEST and safest for the hair. The results have been fantastic. I do not recommend it on virgin hair, we tried it out and it really is not that successful. It eliminates a bit of Frizz, however the results are not long lasting. A permanent straightner is def better – we use the Schwarzkopf STRAIGHT THERAPY – FABULOUS!!! Our prices for the BRAZILLIAN start at R550 for really short hair, up to R1500. We are trying to make this TREATMENT affordable to the public so it can be repeated every 3 – 4 months. I do feel that alot of salons have jumped on the “band wagon” and are totally ripping their client off with their prices. If you would like to know more about us, please contact me on 0828143445, we would love to hear from you.

I had the brazilian blow wave done but I think my expectations were far too high. My hair is softer (no doubt about that) but I still have to blowdry my hair with a huge brush. My hair is long (just past my bra strap), very thick with a slight wave (in fact almost straight) and I thought that with this treatment I could just leave my hair to dry naturally but it still looks big and bushy after the treatment. The follicle is porous when left to dry so I still need to blow dry to get it smooth. What went wrong?

I had the treatment done on Saturday. I did all the research, made sure that I went for a treatment which was formaldehyde free, kept it dry for 3 days and washed it this morning. I used the special shampoo (salt free) and expected it to be smooth and sleek but it actually felt extremely dry and damaged whilst washing it (a bit like after applying a colour before applying the conditioner). It is a bit straigther (my hair is more wavy than curly but frizzy and bushy) but I was rather disappointed. After blowdrying it I still had to iron it and it is still very fluffy. I still seem to have some frizz on the top. I am going back to the salon tomorrow to find out what went wrong

Hi Debbie
Thanks for the feedback. Please let us know what the salon says. It’s always good to have a balanced view and expectation.

I went on friday 29th October 2010 for my treatment in Stellenbosch. My hair feels great nice soft and manageable. I paid R750 for the treatment and R150 for the (salt free) shampoo. After the treatment my hair was very oily but the very same day after applying the treatment I washed my hair, but it’s still feels nice and soft. My hair looks more healthier. The name of the hair salon is Head Boys and the stylist is Hanlie.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN BUY A REASONABLY PRICED SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER WHICH IS SODIUM-FREE FOR MY POST-BRAZILIAN BLOW DRY TREAMENT?
Permalink11
I am going for the brazilian blow wave on Wed 24th at Head Boys Menlyn but am rather nervous to go as I went for the Bionics straightening about 7 years ago and it really didn’t make a difference except for drying my hair terribly. I still had to blow wave my hair. I currently use a GHD straightener on my hair and find it also dries my hair terribly. I also colour my hair (highlights) which makes it worse. My hair isn’t curly as such, but wavy and frizzy if left to dry naturally and I would just LOVE straight hair. Will I get this with the BRAZILIAN BLOW WAVE?
Permalink12
Hi Jenny
The Brazilian should make a big difference for you, but you will probably have to just spend a few minutes each day blow drying your hair for that extra straight look. I did find though, that it was far quicker and the result of my home blow drying was as good as if I had had it done in the salon in about a tenth of the time.
Let us know how it goes!

Hi everyone,
I had the Braziliana treatment today at G&H salon, which is in the Protea Hotel opposite Gateway in Umhlanga. Am not sure about the results yet because I still need to put my 4 days in. It has become really humid in Dbn and I am finding not being able to tie my hair up rather challenging so I really hope it is all worth it. The salon is currently having a special on the treatment. I paid R1650 for the treatment, a cut and colour with a few foils. My hair is pretty long, to my bra-strap so this is a really good price. In four days I go back and they will do the rinse for me and finish my cut, once they know how well the treatment took. This is all included in the price. Holding thumbs…

Hi Amanda

Hi Liza
I don’t know anyone specifically in Pretoria, but perhaps go to the Carlton Hair website and see where their closest store is. Alternatively if anyone else reading this can recommend a place, please do so!

can anyone tell me what happens when it “grows out” do you have to keep going for a blow? please let me know before I take the plunge?
Permalink19
Hi Kate
My experience was that it just started taking longer and longer to blow dry until it was back to what it used to be. About 10 weeks or so and then it would be time for another one. Not sure what the professionals say, but hope that helps.

I always leave my hair to dry naturally. Will I be able to do this after I have the brazilian treatment?

Yes, you can leave your hair to dry naturally. Come back and let us know how it goes after you’ve had it done.

Hi
Can you recommend a certified and reasonable salon in Johannesburg – northern suburbs. I have heard there are a lot of people who may take short cuts (no pun intended) when doing this treatment.
Permalink23
Hi, I don’t know about Salons in Joburg, perhaps someone else who is reading this can recommend?
Permalink24
Hi Liza
I know of a fantastic salon in Lynnwood area in Pretoria called Chez Jean Salon who does the brazilian blowdry. They are very professional. I would recommend them to anyone!
They are on the corner of Lynnwood Rd and Genl. Louis Botha Ave in a small shopping centre. Their number is 012 348 2740.

Hey Giz
Just called Lazzaro Spa & Salon to enquire…no answer left message. Thanks for the tip on the special Giz
R799!!!!
I wonder what’s their normal rate. A salon in Menlyn (Pretoria) quoted me R1750 (I have mid-length just past the shoulder long hair) and then said he’ll give me discount and dropped the price to R1300. The shamp & cond costs R500 extra though.

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a salon in the southern suburbs of cape town to do the brazillain blowdry please?

Hi ladies!!! Want beautifully tamed, frizz free, shiny, manageable hair???
Look no further!! The Inoar Maroccan will do it’s magic. Lasts up to 4 months with proper care. It completely transformes dull, lifeless hair to beautiful, soft, flowing locks!!! It is FDA and ISO approved and completely safe. There are 3 different treatments available: Argan oil for pregnant and breast feeding moms, The original Brazilian Maroccan Keratin treatment for dry, damaged, wavy or curly hair and finally the G-hair (german brush) for extremely damaged, curly, puffy and damaged hair (reduces hair volume more than the Maroccan). This treatment infuses Keratin (naturally found in hair) back into the hair. It protects and repairs the hair. Other Brazilian treatments require you to wait at least 3-5 days before you can wash, tie it up or even put it behind your ears. With the Inoar system you can do all of the above within an hour following treatment. Your hair will be washed twice with a clarifying shampoo from Inoar, then the traetment will be applied (like a tint) and the timely process of flat ironing the product into the hair begins. After the hair has been flat ironed you will have soft, straight and shiny hair!!! It reduces curls and after a couple of treatments may diminish them to a great extent. I own a studio (run from home) where you can relax and be beautified privately. I only see one client a day thus booking is essential as space is limited. You will receive complimentary coffee and my home baked carrot, nut and pineapple muffin with cream cheese icing (delicious!) I have a special running till end September: Moroccan short-shoulder length R800.00 Long R1000.00 (Big salons charge R1400-R3500). The G-hair (this involves an extra product and extra time) shoort-med R1000.00 and long R1300.00. Call Chantal at Le Rouge Keratin Studio on 0718910310. For more info see http://www.lerougekeratin@weebly.com or simply google Inoar Brazilian. There are you tube videos too. Happy Hair Days!!!

Hi there, the only thing putting me off doing this is the no tying up and no kinks etc for 3 0r 4 days I work in a gym an this is just not practical? Is it really that long? I did bionics about two years ago and it actually broke the hair so badly that it grew back like shaved hair, seriously! I still have quite short bits that I have to clip back!!! I won’t be doing that again.
Permalink34
Hi Diana
There are a number of places that advertise the brazilian blowdry, but are in fact giving you a keratin straightening treatment so be careful of that as it is not as effective or as long lasting. My suggestion would be to email Vanessa ashworth from Shine Salon and ask her about this. She will be happy to advise you on this and how best to get around it.
Bionics sounds awful! I’ve had no negative effects from this treatment, rather it made my hair feel fantastic.
Vanessa’s email is vanessa.ashworth@gmail.com

Hi All
Comments on my site from other service providers are not endorsed by me. Please make sure that you do your research and ask as many questions as possible of the hair stylist. Please take everything that you read, including my comments, with a pinch of salt and be aware that there are different products and results out there.

Hi i am in the southern suburbs in Cape town and i have just had the treatment done.
My hair was washed once with the clarifying shampoo and i sat with it on for 15 minutes. Then rinsed and treatment applied and kept on for 20 minutes. Then blowdried and straight ironed. That was it and i was told not to wash my hair for 2 days. The thing is my hair looked terrible, it looked like a wig. It was heavy and sticky and the stylist actually said you wear a scarf after the procudure to keep the hair straight for 2 days. As she said after 2 days and you wash your hair with the shampoo and conditioner i had to buy you will see how great your hair looks. Please advise, is the the brazilian keratin treatment procedure.
Permalink37
Hi, my hair actually looked great straight after the treatment. The procedure sounds the same, but I walked out feeling wonderful about it, definitely no scarves required. For the first week, my hair was super straight and it relaxed a little after that, but there wasn’t ever a moment that I just wanted to cover it up.

Hi
I am going for my first BB this week and I am trying to decide whether to purchase the after care products or not. I have heard they do not really make a difference and its a bit of a money making scheme and that i can find products that are sodium free on the shelves.
Is this true? Are there cheaper products that I can use?
Permalink39
Hi Rosey
It’s up to you about the products. My stylist gave me Joico products which I use anyway. I’m not a fan of shop bought products because I have yet to find ones that make my hair feel as good as the salon bought ones. Chat to your stylist about your concerns and the cost and perhaps she’ll give you better reasoning or options.
